What we collect, and what happens to it.

Last updated

This is a small school. Most of what we hold is something you typed in on purpose, on the contact form or the placement test. The exception is class recordings, which are made during your lessons rather than collected through this website. There are no cookies, no tracking, and no advertising.

Who is responsible

Français Lingua Voyage is an online French school run by Elizabeth Chuks in Nigeria. She is the person responsible for the information described here. You can reach her at contact@francaislinguavoyage.com or on WhatsApp at +234 701 827 9432.

What the contact form collects

Your name, your email address, and your message. Optionally a phone or WhatsApp number, your current French level, and what you are learning French for. The three optional fields are marked optional on the form and nothing is inferred if you leave them blank.

The form is used to answer you. It is not used to add you to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.

What the placement test collects

Nothing, unless you ask for your result.

The ten questions run entirely in your browser. Your answers are never sent anywhere, nothing is stored on your device, and closing the tab ends the test. If you reload the page the test starts again, which is a consequence of storing nothing rather than a design choice.

At the end you are offered the chance to have your result emailed to you. If you take it, the form sends your name, your email address, the CEFR level the test returned, the programme it recommends, and, if you filled it in, what you are learning French for. If you do not take it, nothing leaves your browser.

Your result can also be shared as a web address ending in a level, for example /placement/?level=B1. That address contains a level and nothing else. It carries no name, no email address and no identifier, so anyone you send it to sees the level and learns nothing about you.

Who else handles it

Five companies are involved in running this site and this school.

Cloudflare hosts this site and serves the pages to you. Like every web host, it processes your IP address and basic request information in order to deliver the page and to defend the site against attacks.

Google provides the mailbox where our email arrives, including messages sent through the contact form and the placement test.

Email sent to our contact address is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to a Google mailbox. Cloudflare handles the message in transit and Google stores it. Both companies' privacy policies apply to that.

Web3Forms receives what you submit on the contact form and the placement test and forwards it by email. This site has no server and no database of its own, so a form handling service is what stands in for one. Their privacy policy is at web3forms.com/privacy.

Zoom hosts the live classes and stores the class recordings. Of the five, Zoom holds the most sensitive information, because recordings are video of students including students under 18.

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is where most conversations with students and parents happen, including enrolment. We do not control WhatsApp and Meta’s own privacy policy applies to those messages. If you would rather not use it, email us instead.

Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with anyone else. There are no advertising partners, no data brokers and no third party marketing tools on this site.

Where your information goes

Français Lingua Voyage operates from Nigeria, so a message you send from Canada or the European Union is read in Nigeria, and the services above may process it in other countries. If you would rather not send personal information across borders, ask us to call you instead.

How long it is kept

Enquiries stay in our mailbox for as long as there is a reason to keep them. If you become a student, that is for as long as you are studying and for a period afterwards for our records. If you do not, the enquiry is deleted within twenty four months.

Class recordings

Every class you attend is recorded and shared with you. Recordings are stored in Zoom’s cloud and shared with you from there. We keep them for the length of your programme and for three months after it ends, then delete them. You can ask for a copy of any recording while we still hold it.

Recordings are not shared with anyone other than you. Where the student is under 18, they are also available to their parent or guardian.

Asking for a copy, a correction, or deletion

Write to contact@francaislinguavoyage.com and say what you want. You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or ask us to stop using it. We will answer within thirty days and there is no charge.

You do not have to give a reason to have an enquiry deleted, and asking will not affect how you are treated if you enrol later.

You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your national data protection authority. If you are in Canada, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies. It stores nothing in your browser: no cookies, no local storage, no session storage. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no third party script that watches what you do.

Video testimonials on this site are hosted on YouTube. Nothing loads from YouTube until you click play. If you do, YouTube may set cookies and collect data under Google's terms, and their privacy policy applies to that.

If analytics are added later, this page is updated first and the measurement will be the kind that needs no cookies and identifies nobody.

Younger learners

We teach students under 18. Where we do, a parent or guardian enrols the student, agrees to our terms, and is our point of contact.

We hold the same information about a younger student as about an adult one: their name, their level, and a record of their classes. We also hold the parent or guardian’s name, email address and phone number as the contact for the account.

Class recordings of a student under 18 follow the same retention rule as every other student, set out under Class recordings above. A parent or guardian can ask for a copy while we hold it, and recordings are not shared with anyone other than the student and their parent or guardian.

A parent or guardian can ask at any time what we hold about their child, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Deleting it may mean we cannot continue teaching, because we need a record of a student’s level and progress in order to teach them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
