L’autonomie

French you can work and study in.

B2. For university, professional registration, DELF and DALF, and serious use.

A stack of well worn French paperbacks, Camus, Sartre and Foucault, beside an issue of the Revue française de sociologie and a pair of reading glasses.

Who this is for

You are already conversational and now need French that holds up in a formal setting. A degree programme. A licensing body. A written exam. A job where French is not a nice extra.

What you will be able to do

Follow a lecture or a long meeting and take useful notes. Construct and defend an argument in writing and out loud. Read authentic press and academic material without a dictionary open. Adjust your register depending on who you are speaking to.

What is inside

  • Subjunctive, complex clauses, and the connectors that hold a real argument together.
  • Academic and formal writing, taught as structure.
  • Debate and presentation, recorded and reviewed.
  • Authentic material. French press, radio, podcasts, and documents that were not written for learners.
  • DELF and DALF task preparation for students who need the certificate.

How it runs

Live one to one classes online, two sessions a week. Recorded. Substantial written work between sessions, returned with detailed correction.

An honest note

B2 takes real hours. It is the level where people who are not serious drop out, and it rewards students who read and listen on their own between classes. Elizabeth will tell you frankly whether you are ready to start here or whether you should spend two more months at B1 first.
